• “Matt is an amazing teacher and guitar mentor. I have been playing on and off for years and Matt has helped me be a better player faster than any other teacher I've had. Matt teaches not just the notes, but how to play music with your own personal style. My playing has never been better!!”

    Andrew Orloff (Bellingham, WA)

  • “Prior to studying guitar with Matt, we played together both live and in the studio. He is a top level artist. Technique, style, creativity. Matt shines on electric and acoustic. Leads and rhythm…ripping.  Recently, I decided to try (yet again) learning guitar basics. The instrument does not come easily to me. My first class with Matt sent me on my way to the next level.  Other teachers would overload me with information and I would leave a lesson needing a break. I’d have trouble working on their ideas and would ultimately wind up going back to my old basic stuff. Matt pushed me in good way. He was quick to find out ways he could help me move beyond where I was a little stuck. He cared. I improved right away.  I want a teacher that has been in the trenches and can distill a big subject into some simple, fun ideas. To me, that represents mastery. Matt does that. Highly recommend him as a teacher and player.”

  • "I have been taking lessons from Matt for several months. I have played for many years and hands down Matt is the best guitar instructor I have ever had."

    David Levin (Chicago, IL)

  • "I've been playing my entire life but have always lacked a deeper understanding when it comes to theory, I decided to start taking lessons with Matt to bring my technical skills up to par. As someone who plays very well but lacks an understanding of theory I found this a bit daunting, but Matt has made learning the basics extremely straightforward and easy. He communicates concepts very well & is very thorough in his approach - not once have I left a lesson confused or out of my depth. My understanding of the fretboard has grown exponentially & he's made it very easy to understand chord theory & positioning. I came to Matt with specific goals in mind & we've been tackling them perfectly, while I've found other instructors tend to teach you what THEY want you to learn. Technical stuff aside, Matt is also very enjoyable to be around & has the perfect personality & communication style for teaching"

    Julian Pelino (Los Angeles, CA)

  • "Matt is a fabulous teacher! He won't waste your time with the rote memorization of the scales, but rather show you a different way of looking at the shapes and patterns up and down the fretboard that are more practical and intuitive. He also focuses on how you play as opposed to just what you play...the dynamics and nuances that make each player unique. You'd be surprised how much mileage you can get just out of one note! I would definitely recommend Matt if you're looking to learn as a beginner or to reinvigorate your playing if you've been doing it for years..."

  • "Matt Rosenfeld is a wonderful guitar teacher. He is patient and kind and very talented. Anyone of any age would be lucky to have him as their teacher. A very happy mom”t Item

  • “Having played guitar for over 25 years using chords, bar chords and enjoying playing out of song books with my friends, I decided I wanted to “up my game”. I had always wanted to play solos but lacked the basic knowledge to do so. First off Matt absolutely rips but he plays with a texture and soulfulness that reveals an understanding of more than just speed-playing thru scales. When we started he accurately assessed where my skills were and started building from there. The most accurate way to sum up Matt’s teaching style is reminiscent of the film The Karate Kid. Matt is the Mr. Miyagi of guitar. Every week I was given a task(s) to work on. Sometimes I would wonder why I was doing a specific task or exercise, like when Mr. Miyagi has Daniel “paint the fence” or “wash the cars” but with Matt every subsequent lesson would have what I like to call “an Ah-Ha moment”. All of the sudden I’m doing something I didn’t think I could do and understanding why. It makes you want to practice because those moments are fantastic. Ah-Ha moments were few and far between in my guitar playing before and now I have them every week and I love it.”

    Erik Kunzleman (Los Angeles/Texas)

  • “No matter the style you’re trying to learn, Matt will teach you so much you’ll ask yourself why didn’t I go to him sooner (I started with him when I was 14). You’re not going to find a better guitar teacher so you might as well go with the best. His technique, feel, and knowledge are all top notch. I think he has perfect pitch because if he hears a song for like 30 seconds he already knows how to play it and this applies to anything that has just been released. It’s pretty amazing.”

    Kent Hyun (Chicago, IL)

  • "Matt ROCKS! Super chill dude that listens to you, words and playing, and helps you focus on what you want to achieve. Highly recommend!"

    Woody Ray, (Tustin, CA)

  • “Besides being a skilled and versatile guitarist, Matt has a gift for teaching. He’s great at breaking down challenging musical concepts into digestible pieces. He also teaches practical skills that have immediately improved my playing.”

    Marc Newman (NYC)

  • “I've tried many different guitar teachers and online guitar resources over the years and Matt is the first one to offer straight forward, practical exercises to improve my knowledge of the fretboard, left hand technique, and right hand rhythm playing that fit my needs. He created a lesson plan personalized for me that is just what I need and teaches in a way that makes it fun to learn. Given Matt's guitar playing background (over 40 years playing experience!) steeped in music theory and years and years playing in bands - not to mention writing his own music - he is able to speed up the learning process. Most importantly, he's a great guy and a lot of fun to learn from!”

    Tim O’Bryan (Chicago, IL)

  • “I'm delighted to share my experience with Matt Rosenfeld as an instructor for my son starting at age 12. Matt has a great teaching style making lessons engaging and enjoyable. He is patient, knowledgeable and always punctual and organized. My son’s skills improved significantly under his guidance, and I highly recommend him as a talented instructor. There were many instructors in our area but his name came up much more than the others. I'm glad we went with him.”

    Audrey Rozen (Northbrook, IL)

  • "I've been wanting to play guitar for quite some time and finally had the courage to push myself to do it and found Matt. He was quick to respond and he was within my budget. I am a beginner with no music knowledge of playing guitar. Matt was easy going and was excited for me to start my guitar journey. I usually book 1hr sessions with him. He is very knowledgeable and knows his music material. He was helpful by tweaking up my guitar for it to sound better and explained every part of the guitar. Matt explains things in a way I am able to understand since everyone learns differently. He is encouraging especially when I doubt myself and he also makes it fun to play guitar. He gives me weekly lessons to practice at home depending on my progression. I am always excited to practice at home and go to my lessons. I highly recommend him."

    Marilyn Rizo (Los Angeles, CA)

  • "I've been taking lessons with Matt for a little over 3 months now, and choosing him as my teacher is definitely one of the best decisions I've made. Matt knows how to cater to whichever style of guitar you want to learn, and lessons are always a fun time, whether it's musical theory, strumming and rhythm, lead, bluegrass, or just jamming. Cannot recommend having Matt as your teacher enough!"

Nick Junk - (Los Angeles, CA)

  • "My 7 year old has been taking electric guitar lessons from Matt for a few months now. Matt is fantastic! He keeps the lesson moving, finding the thing that gets my son jamming. As a parent himself, he clearly has life training that aids him in this process. He is also a great role model for my son- as a guitarist and a human. My son needed to find the songs that would inspire him to practice and Matt greatly helped that process. My son has background in classical guitar and Matt was classically trained in his childhood so it is helpful to us that he can pull from that experience to relate it to this similar, but different instrument. Video on this review his my kiddo learning the intro to Weezer's "Undone." It is the first piece he really chose for himself. Many thanks to Matt for guiding him through this piece. If you are looking for an awesome guitar teacher for your child or yourself- look no further!"

    Tricia Russo (Los Angeles, CA)

  • "If you're looking to learn guitar, look no further than Matt! He's very knowledgable, patient and creative with his teaching. I've only been coming for a few months so far, but the amount of progress that I have made in that time is a testimonial to his teaching style. He is flexible, adaptable and makes every lesson customized to you and your needs while making sure that everything builds off of the previous lesson. He also gets into the music theory behind things but makes it easily digestible and straightforward. You can tell he's very passionate about what he does, and it's infectious. Looking forward to playing more!"

Sam Melakerberhan - (Culver City, CA)

  • "I have been seeing Matt once a week for guitar lessons for a few months now. I had one of those customary midlife motivational experiences where I decided I couldn't leave this Earth without being able to play an instrument. Speaking as somebody who comes to the table late and with very little innate musical ability, I can say with authority that he is an incredibly patient and insightful teacher. Our hour together always flies by, and while he can't mitigate the normal day-to-day that can negatively influence my practice time outside of class, I have seen much faster growth from my ten thumbs than I thought possible. Recommend without hesitation."

    Jayson Matthews (Los Angeles, CA)

  • "My 10 year old son has been studying guitar with Matt for a few months now. He loves it and practices on his own without being asked! By being a parent, Matt really speaks his language and keeps him engaged in the process. Highly recommend!"
